When I was a little girl, classic ballet ruled the world and the Dance world was covered with Russian culture and spartanic discipline
As a young ballet dancer and as a natural rebellion soul, I had a deep dialog with this issue. I loved to dance with every inch of my body and soul, add to that my perfectionism all together brought me to think that things has to be done with consistency and hard work.
On the other hand, dancing for me was one big platform of expression and freedom and it felt odd to lock it in such a competitive, rigid culture.
That dialog still exists within me, as a teacher.
First and most important thing for me is to see my students running joyfully to our lesson.
I chose to be a teacher out of the need to contribute something for real life. Whether it’s posture, rhythm or self-confident in body and soul. Then and only then, I aspired to perfection and aimed for building professional dancers.
Being a dancer it’s a hard work and without seriousness, consistency and practicing, we can party well, but the stage demands for more. The stage demands perfection, like back then, in Sparta.
In today’s atmosphere, everything is accessible and easy to achieve. It has both its magic and price.
Everybody can be a dancer, everybody can make dreams come true, and everybody can become a star. We are pushed towards infinite opportunities, so even the stage belongs to everybody and perfection, hardworking discipline, is not a must anymore.
I chose Flamenco, mostly instinctively, out of the need to be in motion and to be able to express myself with no borders and limits.
The Flamenco allows you to be you: light, dark, tall, full bodied, skinny, happy, angry or sad, it allows you to cure your soul. My soul, my student’s soul. Each one in his own way.
In the Flamenco dance, I reached my balance between my classic rigid disciplines to summer vacation atmosphere.
If you could choose to see a show, what would it be?
A persistent, hard worker dancer, moving perfectly on stage according to choreography
Or a dancer who has its own pace of practicing and can express himself in infinite ways?
